Rain in San Diego rates almost on the scale with snow in Texas! Thanks so much for the great messages. You guys are the greatest!! Loved Scott's picture!
Arrived on Tuesday and spent two great days with my college roommate (Alby) who lives in Encinitas. She and I worked on posting the family Christmas picture on the profile.
I'm now at our hotel and today is the official "Day 1" of the tour. We get our bikes delivered from the bike shop (Bernie's) this morning, rider meeting at 1 p.m. and send off dinner at 6:30 tonight. The famous "back wheel dipping" in the Pacific will take place tomorrow morning.
Hoping for sunny weather and gentle winds from the west. Love to all.......

Katie, you always amaze and inspire me! I know you'll do brilliantly. What amazing landscape you're about to see. Many hugs and much love, Christian.
ReplyDeleteKatie - may you enjoy the ride of your life... blessings from one of Christine's many friends in Flagstaff
ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI'm in Orange County today, not far from you. Would loved to have seen you with your back wheel in the Pacific (and your husband in the Pacific too). Have a great adventure.
Love, Ed
Mom-
ReplyDeleteOMG! Can you believe it's here?! Go you! Look forward to meeting you and all the other women when you get over the CA hills and then some to arrive in AZ. Enjoy every day...and let me know what it's like to wake up in a bed versus the tent. xox Kel
Catie: Sharon and I have been across country on our bikes three times. The last one was 7800 miles from N.H. to Portland Or. and then back to Fort Wayne. We first went from Fort Wayne to N.H. dipped our tires and then started for Portland OR. Oh yea, we were on Harley's. It won't matter, your ass is going to be sore no matter what your on for most of the day. It does get better after about a week. That's why they call them iron butts. After a while you don't feel a thing. You are a brave young lady, good luck and God Speed. I'll follow you on your blog. do the same for me. Tomsbattle.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI always knew you were a hard ass.
Tom.
Katie: By now, you've gotten through two days of riding, either saying, "Oh my God, what did I get myself into?" or "YES YES, I'm exhilarated!!" Either way, you're probably in need of a massage. Is that part of the services of the tour? Enjoy your days. Maybe you won't even have to think about politics. While swimming today, I thought, after my mile,"Could I picture doing this sixty times today? Nope - not enough hours, and not enough me. Go,go. go. Love, Loie
